Radio Controlled Models

Designing, building and racing radio controlled models is a very popular hobby that is enjoyed by many people across the world. Radio controlled models have been made of almost every conceivable type of vehicle, cars, planes, tanks and boats are some of the most popular examples of radio controlled models. The 1960’s saw the development of transistor based radio equipment which lead to the creation of radio controlled models becoming much simpler and a number of commercially produced radio controlled models sold as toys became available, although they were still quite expensive at that time.

The technology that allowed the miniaturisation of electronics that became widespread in the mid eighties allowed the production of small and cheap radio controlled models which quickly became very popular toys across the world.

Building and playing with radio controlled models as a hobby presents a number of interesting challenges to the hobbyist. Designing the radio controlled models requires careful planning a good deal of knowledge about servos and radio frequencies. Building the radio controlled models themselves presents another challenge and then the hobbyist must be able to master controlling their radio controlled model. Radio controlled models can become very involving for people who are interested in them and radio controlled models of planes are known to be some of the most engaging and tricky available. Knowledge of the principles of flight is required in order to build and use a radio controlled model plane.
